Social media in itself is not bad, but when it is used to validate us or make us captive to others perception, it becomes not so good. We live in an age of validation, be it on the comments, likes or engagements we get on social media. Facebook, twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn you name it, have taken centre stage in becoming our go to in terms of seeking out validation.
Feeling validated is good, especially when we do a good job, but then it becomes toxic when it becomes our addiction. You will actually notice that most of the people we celebrate today, having achieved a great deal, had to contend with moments of feeling like they were not doing it right, but nonetheless chose to soldier on. They were not validated then, but with consistency they have reached a point where, most of us look up to them and admire them.
In a world of social media, it is good that we set ourselves apart, and hold on those validations at a better time, when we've achieved the most. Premature validation, will lead to us slacking and settling on less because people have given you and I, a few likes or comments, and thus forgetting the bigger picture and the even greatest trophy that awaits.
So, what do we do? It is important that we pursue our true desires, and stay true to ourselves, on and off social media. We do not have to fit in, with a certain clique of people, but we need to seek to grow our deepest aspirations, and eventually we will find our tribe.
It will be amazing that, years or months later, after we've worked on our deepest aspirations, we get to be where we wanted, and also surrounded with people who align with our visions and our dreams.
Lets set ourselves apart folks, and choose to be true to ourselves on social media, and meaningfully connect with people who will propel us to where we desire, even if it cost us loosing touch with a few people online who may not understand our visions, and where it leads.
